Since Windows Vista, LLMNR (Link-Local Multicast Name Resolution) has replaced NetBIOS Name Service.
NetBIOS Name Service is used by the SMB protocol for name resolution. It is basically the DNS of NetBIOS, used to store a table of known NetBIOS Host Names and their corresponding IP address.
